A former gang member, John Turscak, faces charges for attempting to murder Derek Chauvin, the ex-officer convicted in George Floyd’s death.

Turscak stabbed Chauvin 22 times, aiming to highlight the Black Lives Matter movement’s cause against racism and police brutality. He confessed planning the attack for a month due to Chauvin’s high-profile status but denied intending to kill.

Charged with multiple offenses, Turscak’s assault occurred in an Arizona prison where Chauvin was serving a 22.5-year sentence for Floyd’s murder. Despite the attack, Chauvin, known for kneeling on Floyd’s neck, is expected to survive.

Previously sentenced for civil rights violations, Chauvin’s appeal was declined by the US Supreme Court amid claims of an unfair trial.
