Philadelphia police have disclosed the identification of a person of interest in the tragic murder of local journalist and activist, Josh Kruger.

This significant development comes approximately a day and a half following the fatal shooting of Kruger inside his residence on Watkins Street in Point Breeze, located on the 2300 block.

Kruger was discovered outside his home by responding police officers at around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. Swiftly transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Kruger’s career spanned five years in local government, where he served in roles such as City Hall content director, communications director, and spokesperson. In 2021, he returned to journalism, as stated on his website. His writing graced the pages of numerous local publications, including the Philadelphia Inquirer.

On Monday, friends and acquaintances fondly remembered him for his dedicated work on various causes and campaigns, with a particular focus on public education, poverty alleviation, homelessness, and criminal justice reform.
