Dr. Julia de la Garza, an associate medical examiner from Philadelphia, has returned home after a 10-day trip to Israel.

She answered an urgent call to help identify war crime victims, including women and children, in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Dr. de la Garza examined about 100 victims, documenting the medical-legal aspects of the injuries. She faced the challenge of blast force injuries from homemade rocket-propelled grenades, and the constant stress of incoming missiles, relying on alert apps for warnings.

Despite the emotional toll, she emphasized the importance of appreciating the safety and protection Americans enjoy, having examined 400 bodies in 10 days with her team of American doctors.
